이 작품은 자신 내면을 온전히 공개하지 않는 주소저가 ‘고민’과 ‘갈등’을 안고 결혼생활을 지속하며 ‘탈주’를 꿈꾸는 태도를 주요하게 서사화함으로써, 결혼생활에 갈등을 겪는 여성 독자의 현실과 공감 형식의 연대를 취하고 있다. 작품의 마무리에서조차 현경문-주소저 의 부부 갈등은 완전한 해소로 확정되지 않은 채, 지속 가능한 잠재적 갈등을 함축하면서 화해적 관계 조절 방식과 부부생활 지속에 관한 현실적 응답을 제안하고 있다.

이러한 과정은 이 작품이 혼인 생활과 부부 관계 갈등에 관한 대중적 관심을 반영하고 추동했던 통속적 독서물이자, 혼인 이후에 비로소 전개되는 애정 문제에 관해 부부 관계 서사로 접근한 멜로드라마적 가능성을 함축하고 있음을 시사해준다.

Hyunxiyangwoongxangrinki玄氏兩雄雙麟記, the 19th Century noble was lenting in some of the book-lending shops in Seoul, a story on two brothers' married life, Hyunsumoon and Hyunkyungmoon, especially a couple discord narrative as the main conflict. A younger brother Hyunkyungmoon and Lady zoo, one of his wives, are the main characters amongst several couple-units under the command of Hyun Family.

This text dealt with the couple life, Hyunkyungmoon and Lady zoo, as not only a private life, but also a public affair which happened in each family, Hyun and Zoo, even including couple's sexual life. All the family members showed deep consideration on the couple's married life; to observe their private room, to spread the news on the couple's trouble and to meddle directly between husband and wife. Such a point makes this text understand as a family scandal, not only a couple story. Even though in some cases, such an observing and meddling made the couple's relationships worse, the narrator and all the characters regarded such interfering as acceptable attitude. Such narrative phenomenon shows that at that time some consideration of the other family members was regarded the marriage as not a private life, but a family public affair. And it also shows that the readers desired to have some common communicative media to share their own couple conflicts and discord, and by doing so they wanted to resolve their private problems. Such an analysis shows a social function of the noble; a communicative media amongst the contemporary rearers who never have any other common media to share their private and secrete conflicts.

Lady Zoo, one of the main female characters and also one of Hyunkyungmoon's wives, never revealed her inner mind and continuously kept her own conflict and anxiety through her whole married life, and intermittently dreamt to escape from the place of Hyun family which demanded to reconcilable relationship with her husband who continuously tried to some sexual relationship without her agreement. Such narratives reflected some desires of the contemporary readers who were suffering from their married life, especially their husbands who had some over-considering attitude. Even in the conclusion of the text, the conflict between Hyunkyungmoon and Lady Zoo never resolved and ended. Rather the narrative implied their ceaseless problematic relationship. Such a narrative makes this text understand as the 19th Century melodrama which deals with the couple's love story in the contemporary cultural context.
