본 연구의 목적은 경상남도 하동군 섬진강 하구 일대에 분포하는 관속식물상을 조사 및 분석함으로써 하천생태계 보전을 위한 기초 자료 수집에 있다. 연구결과, 관속식물은 100과 270속 352종 4아종 38변종 4품종 등 398분류군으로 요약되었다. 희귀식물은 낙지다리, 자라풀, 모새달 등 3분류군으로 나타났다. 한국특산식물은 능수버들, 할미 밀망, 병꽃나무 등 3분류군으로 나타났다. 식물구계학적 특정식물은 가래나무, 큰꽃으아리, 까치수염, 큰엉겅퀴, 질경이택사 등 17분류군으로 나타났다. 귀화식물은 소리쟁이, 털비름, 자운영, 달맞이꽃, 털별꽃아재비 등 32분류군이었다. 생태계교란야생식물은 애기수영, 가시박, 돼지풀, 물참새피 등 4분류군이었다. 수생식물은 여뀌, 여뀌바늘, 미나리, 개피, 매자기 등 38분류군이었다. 염생식물은 가는갯는쟁이, 나문재, 갯질경 등 11분류군으로 나타났다.

The purpose of study is to collect raw data for river ecosystem conservation by surveying and analysing the vascular plants distributed in Seomjin River estuary, Hadong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do. The results are as follows; The rare plants were 3 taxa; Penthorum chinense Pursh, Hydorcharis dubia (Blume) Backer and Phacelurus latifolius (Steud.) Ohwi. The Korean endemic plants were 3 taxa; Salix pseudolasiogyne H.Lev., Clematis trichotoma Nakai and Weigela subsessilis (Nakai) L.H.Bailey. The specific plants by floristic region were 17 taxa; Juglans mandshurica Maxim., Clematis patens C.Morren ＆ Decne., Lysimachia barystachys Bunge, Cirsium pendulum Fisch. ex DC., Alisma orientale (Sam.) Juz. and so forth. The naturalized plants were 32 taxa; Rumex crispus L., Amaranthus retroflexus L., Astragalus sinicus L., Oenothera biennis L., Galinsoga ciliata (Raf.) S.F.Blake and so forth. The invasive alien plants were 4 taxa; Rumex acetosella L., Sicyos angulatus L., Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. and Paspalum distichum L.. The hydrophytes were 38 taxa; Persicaria hydropiper (L.) Spach, Ludwigia prostrata Roxb., Oenanthe javanica (Blume) DC., Beckmannia syzigachne (Steud.) Fernald, Scirpus maritimus L. and so forth. The halophytes were 11 taxa; Atriplex gmelinii C.A.Mey., Suaeda glauca (Bunge) Bunge, Limonium tetragonum (Thunb.) A.A.Bullock and so forth.
