자기 자비는 자기 친절, 공통의 인간성, 마음 챙김으로 구성된 심리학 구인이다. 자기 자비는 자기 비난, 고립, 반추와 같은 부정적인 결과로부터 자신을 보호할 수 있는 정서적으로 긍정적인 자기 태도를 의미한다. 자기 자비는 스트레스와 역경으로부터 심리적 회복탄력성을 발휘하도록 돕는 매우 중요한 구인이기에 도덕교육에서도 상당한 의미와 중요성을 갖는다. 자기 자비는 웰빙과 정신 건강에 매우 중요한 보호 요인이기에 도덕교육이 지향해야 할 중요한 목표 가운데 하나다. 이에 이 논문에서는 자기 자비라는 심리학 구인이 초등 도덕교육에서 갖는 의미와 중요성을 밝히는데 초점을 맞추었다. 이 논문에서는 자기 자비의 개념 및 구성 요소에 관해 살펴보고, 자기 자비의 심리적 기능과 효과를 분석하며, 도덕 교과에서 자기 자비의 함양을 위한 효과적인 교수 방법을 제안하였다.
