본 연구는 중년여성의 생활사건 스트레스와 삶의 만족의 관계에서 배우자 지지와 자녀지지의 조절효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 서울 및 경기 지역에 거주하고 실제 결혼생활을 유지하고 있는 기혼여성 350명에게 설문을 실시하였으며, 이중 330부를 회수하였다. 회수된 자료 중 불성실하게 답한 설문지 2부와 기혼자녀 1인 이상을 둔 전업 주부를 대상으로 분석을 실시하였기 때문에 자녀 중 미혼 자녀만을 둔 중년기 전업주부의 설문지 5부는 분석에서 제외하였다. 그 결과 323부의 설문지를 분석 대상으로 선정하였다. 본 연구의 결과 배우자지지는 가족 관계스트레스를 제외하고 중년여성의 생활사건 스트레스와 삶의 만족의 관계를 조절하는 역할에 있어 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 반면에 중년여성의 생활사건 스트레스와 삶의 만족감의 관계에서 자녀지지는 역할관계, 경제적 문제 전체 생활사건 스트레스를 조절하는 역할변인으로서 통계적으로 유의하였다. 이러한 결과를 기반으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점 및 추후 연구 방향을 제시하였다.
