본 연구는 어린이의 주보호자 유형을 전업어머니, 직장어머니, 아버지로 분류하여 이들 세 집단 간 미디어 인식, 중재방식, 그리고 미디어교육 필요성의 차이를 분석한 후각 부모 유형별 미디어 인식과 중재방식이 미디어교육의 필요성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 비교하였다. 미디어 인식은 미디어의 부적절 콘텐츠와 부정적 효과로 구분하고중재방식은 기술적용, 부모감독, 대화지도로 나누어 측정하여 이들 변인이 각 부모 유형별 미디어교육의 필요성 인식에 미치는 영향력을 분석하였다. 아버지는 모든 변인에서 최하위로 나타났고 직장어머니는 부적절 콘텐츠를 가장 높게 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 세 집단 모두 대화지도가 미디어교육의 필요성에 미치는 영향력은 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았고 기술적용은 가장 낮은 영향력을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 전업어머니와 직장어머니는 부적절 콘텐츠 인식이 가장 영향력이 큰 변인으로 나타난 반면 아버지는 부모감독으로 나타났다. 직장어머니는 미디어에 대한 부정적 효과 인식이 미디어교육에 영향을 미치는 유일한 집단이었다. 끝으로 이러한 결과의 차이에 근거하여 부모집단별 미디어교육에 대한 가이드라인을 제안하고 있다.
