본 연구는 교사 개인의 경험을 이해하려는 목적에서 한국어 교사인 김 교사의 교실 경영 경험에 나타나는 교사 신념과 그 형성 과정을 내러티브 탐구를 통해 질적으로 살펴보고자 하였다.

처음 대학 기관의 한국어 교사가 되어 학생들을 가르치게 되었을 때에 김 교사는 학생들 가까이에 다가가지 못할 정도로 자신감이 부족했으나 주변 선배 교사 및 팀 티칭 교사의 도움으로 한국어 교사로서의 자신감을 가지고 한국어 교실을 경영할 수 있게 되었다.

김 교사의 한국어 교실 경영 이야기 속에는 ‘누구도 소외되지 않고 즐겁게 한국어를 배울 수 있는 반 분위기’가 가장 중요하다는 김 교사만의 교실 경영 신념이 드러나 있었다. 이와 같은 김 교사의 신념에는 외국 유학, 학생 및 팀 티칭 교사의 구성, 최고 및 최악의 반, 멘토 교사, 학생들에 대한 정보, 대학원 박사 과정 시작 등 김 교사가 한국어 교사가 되기 훨씬 이전부터 최근까지 겪은 다양한 경험이 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다.

마지막으로 본 연구는 개인적 정당화, 사회적 정당화, 실제적 정당화를 탐색하며 탐구를 마무리하였다.
