마인드맵은 교육현장에서 학생들의 배경지식과 도식적 마인드를 활성화시키는 수단이기 때문에 학문 목적을 위한 한국어 쓰기 교육에 유용하다. 본고의 목적은 마인드맵의 장점을 활용하여 학술적 작문 교육을 받지 못한 학부 유학생들의 장르 지식 개발 과정을 탐색하는 것이다. 교양 필수과목으로 쓰기 과목을 수강하는 학부생 27명을 대상으로 1학기 동안 작문 수업을 하면서 장르 지식을 교수하며 마인드맵을 작성하도록 요청하였다. 사후 교수 마인드맵을 분석한 결과 학습자의 보고서, 설명문에서 나타나는 전형적인 텍스트 지식이 심화되었음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 마인드맵을 구성하는 것이 텍스트에 대한 개념적 지식과 수사적 구성 요소에 대한 인식을 높이는 데 도움이 되었으며 쓰기에 대한 동기 부여와 자기 효능감을 높이는 데 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 쓰기 교육에서의 마인드맵 활용은 학문 목적 학습자의 장르 지식에 대한 인식을 심화시켰다.
