국내 대학생 아랍어 학습자의 학습동기와 학습노력에 관한 연구 : 제2언어 동기 자아, 국제적인 자세, 경쟁 변인을 중심으로 = A study on Korean college students' motivation and efforts to study Arabic : focusing on the L2 motivational selves, international posture, and competitiveness
Motivation plays an important role in the second language learning. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of Arabic learners' motivation on their learning efforts, using Dörnyei's (2005; 2009) 'L2 Motivational Self System'. In particular, the study made an attempt to find out characteristics of Korean Arabic learners' motivation at the college level by observing two motivational variables, international posture and competitiveness, which were assumed to be influenced by Korean socio-educational environment. To this end, this study surveyed 150 Korean students studying Arabic at 5 Korean universities and revealed that ideal L2 self and competitiveness play an important role in strengthening the learning efforts of Korean Arabic learners, whereas ought-to L2 self and international posture do not. The study provided pedagogical implications based on these key findings.
