본 연구는 2022년 3월부터 한국 공립학교에 통합된 아프간 특별기여자자녀의 교육 현장을 조망하고, 난민의 교육통합이 지니는 복잡성과 다문화교육 정책의 의미를 비판적으로 성찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 보수주의적, 자유주의적, 비판적 다문화주의의 이론적 프레임워크를 활용하였으며 선행연구, 다문화교육 정책문서, 학교공식문서, 언론보도, 온라인인터뷰 등 질적 자료를 활용하여 사례 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 결과는 국내난민 정책에 있어 난민 아동을 다문화 학생으로 분류하여 학교 접근성을보장하고 있으나, 제도적 인정과 교육통합 사이에는 상당한 격차가 여전히 존재하고 있음을 드러냈다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 국내 난민교육 현장에서 포용적이고 공평한 학습환경을 조성하기 위해 보다 포괄적인다문화적 접근과 정책이 요청됨을 시사한다.
