배경 및 목적: 본 연구는 메타분석을 사용하여 말더듬 집단의 의사소통태도를 일반 집단과 비교하고, 학령전기, 학령기, 성인의 연령별 의사소통태도의 효과크기를 통해 변화양상을 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: 국내·외 데이터베이스를 사용하여 2000년부터 2022년 6월까지 말더듬 집단과 일반 집단의 의사소통태도 점수를 비교한 문헌을 2차에 걸쳐 검색하였다. 연구 선정 기준에 충족하는 총 15편의 문헌으로부터 16개의 자료를 추출하여 전체효과크기와 조절효과분석을 위해 메타분석을 실시하였다. 결과: 집단 간 의사소통태도 점수의전체효과크기를 비교한 결과, 큰 효과크기(g =2.507)를 보였고, 유의한 차이가 있었다. 연령에 따른 집단 간 의사소통태도 점수를 메타ANOVA로 분석한 결과, 세 연령 간 효과크기에 유의한 차이가 있었다(χ=13.53, p<.01). 이에 사후검정을 실시하였고, 학령전기와 학령기 연령 간 효과크기 차이는 유의하지 않았다(χ=.72, p=.40). 학령기와 성인 연령 간 큰 효과크기를 보였고, 통계적으로 유의하였다(χ=5.95, p<.05). 학령전기와 성인 연령 간 매우 큰 효과크기를 보였고, 통계적으로 유의하였다(χ=13.52, p<.01). 논의 및 결론: 연구결과, 모든 연령대에서 말더듬 집단은 일반 집단보다 부정적인 의사소통태도를 보였으며, 특히 성인시기는 다른 두 연령대(학령전기, 학령기)와 비교하였을 때 더 크게 부정적이었다. 이에 말더듬 치료 시, 외현적 행동뿐만 아니라, 연령에 맞는 의사소통태도를 다루는 활동의 제공이 필요하다.
