The Covid-19 virus pandemic over the past three years has brought the issues of climate change and environmental degradation into sharp focus. Climate change and environmental degradation are also deeply linked to inequality, discrimination, and corruption, which require global solidarity and cooperation to address. These diverse issues and challenges require a shift in our understanding of history. This requires, among other things, reflection on research perspectives, methods, and epistemological foundations. As a way to respond to these challenges, this article seeks to explore the possibility of global solidarity and cooperation through a global turn in the study of Korean modern history, that is, by shifting the frame of ‘anti-Japanese nationalism’ to a critique of colonialism at the global level.
