이 연구의 목적은 초·중등 다문화교육을 위해서 문화다양성, 편견과 차별에 대한 비판, 갈등과 갈등 관리를 주제로 하여 자기이해, 상황이해, 비판적 사고의 다문화 역량을 키우기 위한 게임 콘텐츠 〈로컬스톤 탐험대〉를 개발하고, 이를 적용하기 위한 방안을 마련하는데 있다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 선행연구 분석하고 교수설계 절차에 근거하여, 12명의 전문가 검토를 통해서 사용성 평가와 수업 운영에서의 고려 사항에 대한 의견을 모았다. 콘텐츠 개발에서 학습내용의 관점에서는 난이도, 학습 시간 및 분량, 이해 용이성, 학습목표 명확성, 학습활동 구조화, 언어적 정확성, 다양성 및 편견 방지를 고려하였다. 사용자 경험 측면에서는 교수학습 지원 안내, 조작 용이성, 접근성, 기기 호환성, 가독성, 직관성, 몰입성의 요소에 주안점을 두었다. 더불어 콘텐츠 활용 수업 운영에서 예상되는 유익한 점과 어려운 점, 「교사용 지침서」와 「학습자 활동지」에서의 개선 사항, 수업 지원 요구 사항을 파악하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 게임 요소를 결합한 향후 다문화교육 콘텐츠 개발과 실행의 기초자료로써 활용될 뿐만 아니라 학교 다문화교육의 교수설계에 있어 질적 발전에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
