본 연구는 교통사고 생존자인 중년 부부의 외상 후 삶에 대한 내러티브 탐구를 통하여 그들의 경험과 삶의 의미를 탐색하고자 수행되었다. 연구참여자는 교통사고를 경험하고 외상 후 스트레스 진단을 받은 중년 부부이다. 자료수집 기간은 2020년 3월부터 2021년 10월까지이며, 심층면접을 통한 자료수집은 총 14회로 회당 1~3시간 동안 실시되었으며, 연구 절차는 Clandinin과 Connelly(2018)의 내러티브 탐구 방법의 다섯 단계의 순환과정으로 진행되었다.

자료 분석은 Clandinin과 Connelly(2018)가 제시한 내러티브 3차원적 탐구공간에서 4가지 방향성을 기준으로, 연구자의 관점을 통해 ‘참여자들의 이야기된 삶’의 의미를 분석하였다. 교통사고 생존경험에 대한 트라우마 이야기를 통해 도출된 중년 부부의 삶의 의미는 ‘삶이 흔적으로 뒤덮임’, ‘멍울진 묵은 상처가 덩굴처럼 올라옴’, ‘올라온 멍울이 풀어져서 유연해짐’, ‘아픔의 결정으로 엮어가는 진주목걸이’, ‘빛에 이끌려 빛이 되려 함’과 같이 구성되었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 교통사고에서 생존한 중년 부부의 외상 후 삶의 의미를 논의하였고 심리적 상담 현장에 교통사고 외상 경험자들에 대한 이해와 후속 연구 및 심리적 지지와 상담적 개입 방안을 제언하였다.

This study was conducted to narratively inquire into the lives of middle-aged couples who are traffic accident survivors, thereby exploring their experiences and meaning of life. The participants were middle-aged couples who had experienced traffic accidents and had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. The data were collected from March 2020 to October 2021, and a total of 14 in-depth interviews were performed with one to three hours per session. The study procedure followed Clandinin and Connelly's(2018) narrative inquiry method with the five-step cycle and the analysis was performed based on the three-dimensional inquiry space and the four types of directivity that Clandinin and Connelly presented. Also, the author analyzed the meaning of the 'life told by the participants' from their own perspectives. Through the story of surviving a traffic accident, the meaning of life of a middle-aged couple was derived into five, and this was discussed. Finally, understanding and follow-up studies of clients who suffered trauma in traffic accidents, psychological support, and counseling intervention were suggested.
