본 논문은 베트남어 모어 화자의 한국어 발음에서 /j/계 이중모음이 목표 단어의 음절 구조에 따라 다르게 발음되는 현상을 제약 기반 이론의 관점에서 분석하고, 다양한 오류형을 발생시키는 요인이 무엇인지 알아보았다. 본고에서는 전이음 /j/가 탈락하거나 다른 자음으로 대치되는 현상이 모두 베트남어의 음절핵 구성 요건을 충족하기 위한 단일한 동기에 의해 발생한다는 사실을 지적하였다. 그리고 이를 형식적으로 뒷받침하기 위해 최적 이론을 바탕으로 하여 유표성 제약에 속하는 음절 구조 제약들(*Complex(M), *P/palatal glide, *Complex(P), Onset, No Coda)과 충실성 제약에 속하는 분절음 탈락 금지(Max-IO), 자질 변화 금지(Ident-IO(F)) 제약의 세부 제약들 사이의 위계를 설정하였다.
