The purpose of this study was to identify the distribution characteristics of vascular plants in Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do and in Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, uninhabited islands and to compare the flora between two regions to generate basic information necessary for the establishment of ecological and natural landscape conservation and efficient sustainable forest management plans in the future.

For this study, a local vegetation survey was conducted from March 2022 to May 2023 and referring to various literature. Vascular plants, 1,025 species were identified from 173 islands in Shinan-gun and 876 species from 106 islands in Tongyeong-si. As for naturalized plants, 48 species were identified in Shinan-gun and 35 species were identified in Tongyeong-si. Halophytes, 80 species were identified in Shinan-gun and 54 species were identified in Tongyeong-si. In Raunkiaer life forms, Geophytes(G) had highest proportional ratio 27.0%(232 taxa) in Shinan-gun, but Hemicryptophytes(H) 23.3% (156 taxa) in Tongyeong-si.

As a result of statistical analysis between the two regions, there was a significant difference in terms of species diversity, and Shinan-gun had the average of 25 more species than Tongyeong-si. In terms of the number of naturalized plants, there was no significant difference, but there was a significant difference in terms of the proportion of naturalized plants. There was a statistically significant difference in terms of halophytes, and Shinan-gun has about twice as many species as Tongyoung-si.

Through this study, it was found that the flora of Shinan-gun was less interfered than Tongyeong-si. In consideration of these characteristics, it is necessary to establish a plan to manage forests efficiently and sustainably, and at the same time, further research is needed on the cause of interference.
