목적 본 연구는 중국인 다중언어 연구자들이 논문 출판 과정에서 경험하는 딜레마의 본질과 그 의미를 이해하기 위해 수행되었다.

방법 이를 위해 서울시에 소재한 대학원에서 한국어 교육학 전공 박사 학위를 취득했거나 취득할 예정인 중국인 유학생을 대상으로심층 면담을 실시하고, 수집된 자료는 Giorgi(1985)의 현상학적 방법을 통해 분석하였다.

결과 분석 결과 참여자들은 논문 출판의 압박과 다변하는 학술 환경 속에서 한정된 기간 내에, 언어적⋅사회적 제약에도 불구하고최선의 목표를 달성하려다 딜레마에 직면하는 것으로 드러났다. 먼저 ‘논문 출판의 압박과 학술 환경의 다변성’에는 ‘전 세계적인‘publish or perish’ 문화의 확산’과 ‘국제 학술 언어로서 영어의 세계적인 위상’, ‘자국 학술지 보호를 위한 국가 정책’, ‘대학 및학과별 평가 기준의 상이성과 모호성’ 등이 포함되었고, ‘시간적 한정성’에는 ‘규정된 기한에 따른 압박감’, ‘실적 관리용 연구에 투자할 시간 부족’, ‘연구 일정 조정의 비자율성’ 등이 있었다. 게다가 ‘학술 언어의 어려움’이나 ‘논문 피드백의 언어문화적 차이’와 같은언어적 제약과 ‘네트워크의 주변부’에서 ‘낮은 수준의 정보 접근성’을 겪는 다중언어 연구자들의 사회적 제약도 드러났다. 한편, 참여자들은 위와 같은 구조적, 시간적, 언어적, 사회적 제약 등 여러 가지 맥락에서 마주하는 딜레마에 대처하기 위해 다양한 전략들을활용하는 것으로 나타났으며, 구체적으로는 ‘언어적 자본 활용하기’, ‘사회적 자본 활용하기’, ‘장기적인 관점에서 투고할 언어의순서 결정하기’, ‘성장 마인드셋 강화하기’가 주로 활용되고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

결론 본 연구에서 논의한 다중언어 연구자의 딜레마와 딜레마 대처 전략을 바탕으로 하여, 연구가 가지는 시사점과 실제적⋅학술적함의를 제시하였으며, 연구의 제한점 및 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.
