This paper examines two volumes of The Korean Poetry Collection, which contain poems published by poet Uchino Kenji during his stay in Korea in the 1920s. It conducts a comparative analysis of the literary characteristics of Uchino's Korean period.
The results reveal that: (1) While both volumes share the commonality of depicting Korean reality and its people as poetic subjects, their expressive methods differ. The first collection is fundamentally humanistic folk poetry, while the second collection is primarily modernist social poetry and proletarian poetry. (2) Both poetry collections were constructed by utilizing the space of Korea as an overseas territory as a practical achievement of the New Literature Movement. However, the first collection was created under the concept of new popular poetry, focusing on rural landscapes and the beauty of the people's lives in the countryside. In contrast, the second collection adopted modernist poetic techniques aligned with the concept of urban literature. (3) Analysis and examination of the two volumes of Chosun Poetry Anthology confirmed that it is difficult to directly impose the image of “resistance poet Arai Tetsu” onto the works from Uchino Kenji's period in Korea. This point requires caution in future discussions.*표시는 필수 입력사항입니다.
