본 연구는 전기박물관 소장 『등롱색촉차하책(燈籠色燭上下冊)』의 작성 방식과 내용을 검토한 것이다.

『등롱색촉차하책』은 대한제국기 황실의 호위를 담당한 호위대의 등롱색(燈籠色)이 사용처에 따라 초[燭]를 지급한 후 지급 날짜와 사용처를 정리한 치부책(置簿冊)이다. 전기박물관 소장 『등롱색촉차하책』은 2책으로 1903년 1월에서 1907년 3월까지의 초 출급 내역이 기록되어 있다. 매 달의 출납 기록을 정리하여 작성하되 마지막에는 한 달 동안 소요된 촛불의 수량을 적고 담당자가 날인한 후 총책임자의 결재를 받았다. 출납 내역은 촛불의 종류에 따라 구분하였으며 각 일자별로 수량, 사용처, 초를 사용한 등롱 등의 정보가 기재되어 있다.

1903년부터 1907년까지 출급한 초의 종류는 1량촉·2량촉·양촉이며, 고종을 비롯한 황실의 여러 인원, 외국의 대사, 국가적 행사 등에 초를 지급하였다. 지급한 초가 사용된 등롱은 협여등, 협련등, 어전등롱, 준전등롱, 괘현등롱 등이 있다. 본서는 관찬 사서(史書)에서 확인할 수 없는 고종의 행차와 연회 등 대한제국기 황실의 내밀한 일상을 알 수 있다는 점에서 사료적 가치를 지닌다.

This study examines the composition and contents of an edition of Deungnongsaekchokchahachaek(燈籠色燭上下冊) housed in the Electric Museum.

Deungnongsaekchokchahachaek is a book of accounts (chibu-chaek) that records the issuance to, and use of candles by, the Deungnongsaek(燈籠色; Imperial Guard) during the Korean Empire.

The two volumes of Deungnongsaekchokchahachaek housed in the Electric Museum record the issuance of candles from January 1903 to March 1907. The records were compiled on a monthly basis, with the final volume recording the number of candles consumed during the month, stamped by the person in charge, and approved by the general manager. The records are categorized by type of candle, and for each date, information on the quantity, use, and types of candles used is recorded.

The candles issued from 1903 to 1907 included s ingle-bulb, double-bulb, and triple-bulb candles. They were distributed to Emperor Gojong and other members of the imperial family, foreign ambassadors, and persons who attended state events. The types of lanterns in which these candles were used included hyeobyeodeung, hyeomnyeondeung, eojeondeungnong, junjeondeungnong, and gwaehyeondeungnong. This book holds historical value as it provides details of and insights into the intimate daily life of the imperial family during the Korean Empire, including Emperor Gojong's processions and banquets, which cannot be confirmed in the official historical records (史書).
