현대 사회의 아동·청소년은 정서적 불안, 공감 부족, 자기조절 미비 등 복합적 인성 문제에 직면하고 있다. 사회정서학습(SEL)은 다섯 핵심 역량을 통해 학업 성취와 정신건강 증진에 기여해 왔으나, 서구 중심적·단기 개입적 성격으로 인해 동아시아 맥락과 지속적 성찰, 윤리적 실천을 충분히 반영하지 못하는 한계를 지닌다. 한국형 사회정서교육(K-SEL) 역시 실행과 가치 지향 간 괴리 등 구조적 문제가 지적된다. 본 연구는 국내·외 SEL 연구 21편에 대한 체계적 문헌고찰을 통해 이러한 한계를 도출하고, 불교 인성교육, 특히 팔정도 수행 원리가 반복적 수행과 내면 성찰을 통해 이를 보완할 수 있는 대안적 방향임을 제시한다.
