소크라테스의 재판은 개인의 자유와 사회적 규율 사이의 긴장을 드러내는 중요한 철학적·정치적 쟁점의 중심에 서 있다. 법과 정의, 영혼의 불멸, 복종과 저항의 문제를 둘러싼 학술적 논의는 풍부하게 전개되어 왔으나, 이 사건을 교정학적 관점에서 성찰하려는 시도는 상대적으로 부족했다. 교정학은 형벌과 교화, 그리고 사회적 규율의 관계를 탐구하는 학문으로서, 소크라테스 재판을 통해 형벌의 목적과 사회적 기능을 새롭게 해석할 수 있는 가능성을 제시한다. 본 연구는 소크라테스의 사형 판결을 철학적 의미에 국한하지 않고, 형벌의 교정학적 의미를 함께 탐구한다. 이를 통해 형벌이 공동체의 규범을 유지하는 장치로서 어떻게 작동하며, 감옥과 자유의 변증법의 문제를 해결하는 데 어떤 방식으로 드러나는지를 분석하고자 한다. 아울러 소크라테스 재판은 인간성의 회복과 정의의 실현이라는 인문학적 교정의 의미를 지니고 있음을 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다.

The trial of Socrates stands at the center of a crucial philosophical and political debate, exposing the tension between individual freedom and social discipline. While scholarly discussions surrounding law and justice, the immortality of the soul, and obedience and resistance have been plentiful, attempts to examine this case from a correctional perspective have been relatively rare. Correctional studies, the discipline that explores the relationship between punishment, education, and social discipline, offers the possibility of reinterpreting the purpose and social function of punishment through the trial of Socrates.

This study goes beyond the philosophical implications of Socrates' death sentence to explore its correctional implications. Through this, we aim to analyze how punishment functions as a device for maintaining community norms and how it is revealed in resolving the problem of the dialectic between prison and freedom. The purpose of this study is to reveal that the trial of Socrates carries the humanistic significance of correction, restoring humanity and realizing justice.
