본 연구는 부모-자녀 상호작용이 자유학기제 중학생의 진로성숙도에 미치는 영향에서 자기결정성 내재적 동기와 학업스트레스의 이중 매개 역할을 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국교육개발원에서 실시한 한국교육종단연구(KELS) 2013의 3차년도 자료를 분석에 활용하였다. 해당 자료의 조사 시점은 2015년으로 전국 17개 시도의 중학교에서 자유학기제를 본격적으로 시행하였으며, 본연구에서는 자유학기제를 실시하지 않은 학교의 학생을 제외하고, 연구에 필요한 모든 문항에 응답을 완료한 중학교 1학년 5,366명의 데이터를 분석하였다.

본 연구의 구조방정식 모형분석을 통한 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모-자녀 상호작용은 자유학기제 중학생의 진로성숙도에 직접적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 부모-자녀 상호작용은 자기결정성 내재적 동기를 매개로 진로성숙도에 간접적으로 영향을 미쳐 부분 매개효과가 검증되었다. 셋째, 부모-자녀 상호작용은 학업스트레스를 매개로 진로성숙도에 영향을 미쳐 부분 매개효과가 검증되었다. 넷째, 부모-자녀 상호작용은 자기결정성 내재적 동기와 학업스트레스를 순차적으로 매개하여 진로성숙도에 간접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 자기결정성 내재적 동기와 학업스트레스의 이중 매개 경로 또한 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 나타났다.

연구 결과를 토대로 자유학기제 시기 중학생의 진로성숙도 향상을 위해 부모-자녀 간 긍정적인상호작용을 증대하기 위한 부모교육 프로그램과 학생의 심리적 요인인 자기결정성 내재적 동기를증진하며 학업스트레스를 완화할 수 있는 상담개입 및 온라인 플랫폼의 활용 등 구체적인 정책적· 실천적 방안을 제시하였다.

This study examines the dual mediating effects of self-determined intrinsic motivation and academic stress in the relationship between parent–child interaction and career maturity among middle school students participating in the Free Semester Program. Data were obtained from the third wave of the Korean Education Longitudinal Study (KELS) 2013. After excluding students from schools that did not implement the program, the final sample consisted of 5,366 first-year middle school students who completed all relevant items. Structural equation modeling was conducted. The findings are as follows. First, parent–child interaction had a significant direct effect on students’ career maturity. Second, parent–child interaction indirectly influenced career maturity through self-determined intrinsic motivation, indicating a partial mediating effect.

Third, academic stress also partially mediated the relationship between parent–child interaction and career maturity. Fourth, a sequential dual mediation pathway was identified, showing that parent–child interaction affected career maturity indirectly through both self-determined intrinsic motivation and academic stress in sequence. Based on the findings, this study proposes specific policy and practical measures to enhance the career maturity of middle school students during the Free Semester Program. These include developing parent education programs, implementing counseling interventions, and utilizing online platforms
