心汕 趙成珉(1879~1952)은 전라북도 남원 출신으로 의료계에 관심을 갖고 평범한 일상을 보내던 인물이었으나 1910년 경술국치를 당하면서 국권회복을 위해 독립운동에 참여한 인물이다.

심산은 1912년 전라북도 임실 출신의 의병장 李錫庸(1878~1914)이 전라북도 진안에서 호남 지역 인물 20여 명으로 조직한 비밀결사대 壬子冬密盟團에 가담해 활동했다. 비록 중국으로 망명을 떠나 독립운동을 전개하려던 이석용이 1913년 10월 망명 직전 체포되면서 임자동밀맹단은 와해되었지만, 당시 대덕으로 거주지를 옮긴 상태의 심산은 고향 주변에서 결성된 임자동밀맹단 단원으로서 募兵 및 무기·군자금·군수품 등을 보급하거나 정보를 제공하는 등의 활동을 벌였다.

심산은 1919년 상해 임시정부에서 파견한 朴濟雄의 권유로 임시정부원이 되었고, 1920년 독립운동에 본격적으로 투신하기 위해 직접 상해로 건너갔다. 그해 세 번째로 국경을 건너던 심산은 安東(현 丹東)의 怡隆洋行에서 일본 경찰에 체포된 후, 안동감옥, 의주감옥, 서대문형무소로 이감되며 2년여간 옥고를 치렀다. 그 사이 심산은 9수의 옥중시를 남겼다. 출옥 후인 1923년 심산은 또 다른 방향인 儒敎를 번창시키는 방법으로 국권회복을 도모하고자 북경에 가서 孔敎會 인사들을 만났으나, 뜻대로 되지 않자 돌아왔다. 1930년에도 심산은 벗들과 함께 서대문형무소에 투옥된 사실을 확인시켜주는 옥중시 1수를 남겼다.

이처럼 심산은 임자동밀맹단 단원부터 대한민국 임시정부에서 임시정부원으로 활약하다 체포되어 2년여간 옥고까지 치른 사실이 확인된다. 이에 더해 또 다른 방면으로 공교회 운동에도 힘쓰고자 하는 등 다방면에서 독립운동을 펼친 사실도 확인된다. 그러므로 심산은 독립유공자로 지정받아 마땅하다.

Simsan Jo Seong-min(趙成珉, 1879~1952) was a native of Namwon, Jeollabuk-do. Though initially a figure with an interest in medicine leading an ordinary life, he joined the independence movement for national restoration after the Gyeongsul National Humiliation in 1910.

In 1912, Simsan joined the Imjadong Milmaengdan(壬子冬密盟團), a secret society organized in Jinan, Jeollabuk-do, by the righteous army leader Yi Seok-yong(李錫庸, 1878~1914) of Imsil, Jeollabuk-do, with about 20 figures from the Honam region. Although the Imjadong Milmaengdan was disbanded when Yi Seok-yong was arrested on October 13, 1913, just before his planned exile to China to expand the independence movement, Simsan, who had by then moved his residence to Daedeok, actively engaged in activities such as recruiting soldiers, supplying weapons, war funds, and military provisions, and providing intelligence as a member of the Imjadong Milmaengdan, which was formed near his hometown.

In 1919, Simsan became a Provisional Government official at the recommendation of Park Je-ung(朴濟雄, 1877~1941), who was dispatched by the Provisional Government in Shanghai. In 1920, he directly traveled to Shanghai to fully commit to the independence movement. That year, while crossing the border for the third time, Simsan was arrested by Japanese police at Yiryung Yanghaeng(怡隆洋行) in Andong(安東, present-day Dandong) in Southern Manchuria. He was subsequently transferred to Andong Prison, then Euiju Prison, and finally Seodaemun Prison(西大門刑務所) in Gyeongseong, enduring over two years of imprisonment. During his incarceration, Simsan left behind 9 prison poems(옥중시). After his release in 1923, Simsan sought another path for national restoration by promoting Confucianism, traveling to Beijing to meet with figures from the Confucian Association(孔敎會), but his efforts did not bear fruit, and he returned. In 1930, Simsan left another prison poem confirming his imprisonment in Seodaemun Prison with his comrades.

Thus, Simsan's involvement is confirmed from being a member of the Imjadong Milmaengdan to serving as an official in the Provisional Government, enduring over two years of imprisonment after his arrest. Furthermore, he actively pursued other avenues like the Confucian Association movement, demonstrating his multifaceted contributions to the independence movement. For these reasons, Simsan is undoubtedly worthy of recognition as a national independence meritorious person.
