This study addresses the demand for versatile jigs and fixtures in multi-product, small-batch manufacturing by developing a multi-point vacuum fixture capable of adapting to complex geometries and diverse surface conditions. The proposed device integrates a shape-adaptive ball-joint vacuum pad with a hydraulically adjustable cylinder to ensure stable contact with the workpiece. An independent vacuum and fluid channel system was designed to maintain continuous suction during machining, thereby overcoming limitations of conventional vacuum chucks. Finite element analysis confirmed stable fixation under shear loads of up to 200 N. A prototype was fabricated and experimentally demonstrated a vertical holding force of 705 N and a shear resistance of 274 N, achieving over 90% of the predicted performance.
Furthermore, the fixture exhibited reliable clamping even on inclined surfaces up to 30° and on rough textures. These results highlight the potential of the proposed fixture as an enabling technology to improve productivity and efficiency in precision machining of aerospace components and other applications requiring complex part fixation*표시는 필수 입력사항입니다.
