This study aims to analyze the characteristics of biophilic design applied to mixed-use cultural spaces and to present them as design guidelines. Modern cities are experiencing a disconnect from nature and spatial overcrowding due to rapid industrialization and urbanization, necessitating new cultural space models that can restore the physical and psychological well-being of urban residents. This study utilized Edward O. Wilson's biophilia theory and Stephen R. Kellert's six elements and three experience categories as a theoretical framework, complemented by a sensory design perspective. Case analyses were conducted on five mixed-use cultural spaces: Seoul City Hall, The Hyundai Seoul, Seoul Municipal North Seoul Museum of Art, Busan Museum of Modern Art, and F1963. The results of the study categorized biophilic design in complex cultural spaces into three types: direct experience-centered, place-enhancing, and indirect/symbolic complementary. This confirmed that biophilic design is a core strategy that goes beyond simple eco-friendly decoration to support the promotion of urban residents' well-being, the strengthening of local cultural identity, and the construction of a sustainable urban environment. This study provides an analytical framework and practical insights for systematically applying biophilic design in the planning and design of urban cultural spaces in the future.
