본 연구는 기온 상승으로 인해 남한 내에서 세대 수가 증가하고 있는 미국흰불나방(Hyphantria cunea)을 대상으로 국내에 서식하는 기생파리

류의 숙주 연관성과 잠재적 생물학적 방제 가능성을 탐색하였다. 2024년 4월부터 6월까지 서울, 세종시, 전라도, 충청남도에서 숙주인 미국흰불나 방 1,000개체를 채집하여 실내에서 사육한 결과, 391개체는 병원성 감염으로 폐사하고, 253마리의 숙주가 성충으로 우화하였다. 숙주 116개체에 서 기생파리의 산란 흔적이 확인되었으며, 이들 중 70개체가 성충으로 우화하였다. 우화한 개체는 3속 3종이 확인되었고, 긴등기생파리(Exorista japonica), 회색기생파리(Compsilura concinnata) 2종으로 동정되었다. 이 중 긴등기생파리는 모든 조사 지역에서 출현하였으며, 가장 높은 발생 빈 도를 보였다. 또한 사육 과정에서 바이러스 또는 곰팡이 감염으로 폐사한 기생 개체들을 해부한 결과, 확인된 기생파리 종들은 숙주가 지닌 병원성 요인들에 대한 내성이 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 긴등기생파리가 미국흰불나방에 대해 가장 높은 발생 빈도와 넓은 분포를 보임을 제시하 며, 향후 미국흰불나방의 생물학적 방제 후보 종으로서의 잠재적 활용 가능성을 시사한다.
