Generally, body-part reflexive constructions where body parts are marked in the accusative case are considered to disallow direct passives. However, Japanese exhibits cases (hereafter, body-part reflexive passives) where reflexive constructions are naturally accepted as direct passives, albeit with limited usage, and these have attracted considerable attention.
Previous analyses have primarily focused on under what conditions the distinctness of body parts is satisfied. The validity of the analysis that body parts are naturally accepted as direct passive sentences because they are perceived as entities separated from the agent, given that body parts and agents are inseparably linked by a possessive relationship, is undeniable. However, the distinctness of the agent is significantly involved, not just the distinctness of the object of the action, as a condition for perceiving the object of the action and the agent as separate entities.
The purpose of this paper is to focus on the construal of changes in the object of the action and to describe in detail the meaning expressed by body-part reflexive passives. In other words, this analysis also aims to clarify under what circumstances the agent is individually construed in Japanese body-part reflexive passives.*표시는 필수 입력사항입니다.
