본 연구는 생성형 AI 시대, 메타버스 기술이 인간의 존재 방식과 사회 구조에 미치는 영향을 문학적 상상력을 통해 비판적으로 조망하고자 한다. 특히 메리 셸리의 『프랑켄슈타인』을 핵심 텍스트로 삼아, 창조자의 책임 회피, 자아 정체성의 분열, 디지털 격차로 인한 사회적 배제라는 세 가지 핵심 문제를 중심으로 디지털 사회의 윤리적 문제를 성찰한다. 메타버스와 인공지능은 인간의 자율성을 확대하는 듯 보이지만, 실제로는 새로운 형태의 소외, 감정의 비감각화, 정보 권력의 집중을 야기하고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 디지털 기술의 윤리적 사용과 공동체 회복을 위한 교육적 방향성을 모색하며, 교양교육 현장에서 이루어진 프로젝트 사례들인 메타버스 탄소저감 실천 앱, 정체성 회복 게임, 수어 학습 플랫폼 등을 분석한다. 이러한 참여 기반 프로젝트들은 단순한 기술 활용을 넘어, 디지털 시민성, 공감 능력, 윤리적 상상력을 함양하는 실천적 교육 모델로 기능할 수 있음을 보여준다. 본 연구는 인문고전의 프랑켄슈타인적 상상력이 오늘날 디지털 사회를 재성찰하는 유효한 인문학적 성찰 도구가 될 수 있음을 제안한다.

This study critically explores how generative AI and metaverse technologies are reshaping human existence and social structures through the lens of literary imagination. Taking Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein as a core text, the research reflects on three central ethical challenges of digital society: the creator’s evasion of responsibility, the fragmentation of self-identity, and social exclusion caused by digital divides. While the metaverse and artificial intelligence appear to expand human autonomy, they often give rise to new forms of alienation, emotional desensitization, and the concentration of informational power. In response, this study seeks educational directions for the ethical use of digital technologies and the restoration of community values. It analyzes classroom-based projects—such as a metaverse carbon reduction app, a self-identity recovery game, and a sign language learning platform—developed through liberal arts education. These participatory projects move beyond mere technical engagement to function as practical educational models that foster digital citizenship, empathy, and ethical imagination. Ultimately, this research argues that the Frankensteinian imagination found in classical literature offers a powerful humanistic framework for rethinking today’s digital society.
