본 연구는 서양 고전『오디세이아』의 신화적 영웅 오디세우스와 동양 고전『사 기（史記）』「오기열전」의 역사적 인물 오기（吳起）를 비교 대상으로 삼아, 서로 다른 서사적 배경에서 발현된 전쟁 영웅 리더십의 본질과 특징을 규명하는 것을 목적으 로 한다. 이를 위해 두 인물의 리더십을 전문적 역량과 전략적 지혜, 제도 개혁과 군율의 엄격성, 공감과 고난의 공유, 윤리적 긴장과 비극성이라는 네 가지 축을 중 심으로 분석하였다.

분석 결과, 오디세우스는 메티스（Metis）로 대표되는 지략을 통해 초월적 난관 을 극복하고 공동체의 질서를 회복하는 ‘전략적 수호자’의 면모를 보였다. 이에 반 해, 오기는 냉철한 통치술과 병법을 기반으로 현실의 모순을 타파하며 급진적인 제 도 개혁을 단행한 ‘실천적 개혁가’의 전형을 제시하였다. 특히 윤리적 측면에서 두 인물은 뚜렷한 차이를 보이는데, 오디세우스가 귀향과 질서 회복이라는 명분 속에 서 비윤리적 행위（살생 등）에 대한 신화적 정당성을 확보했다면, 오기는 목적 달성 을 위해 사적 윤리를 희생하는 극단적 실용주의를 추구했으나 결국 비극적 최후를 맞이함으로써 역사적 현실의 한계를 드러냈다.

결론적으로 두 영웅의 리더십은 각각 인간적 가치의 회복（신화적 이상）과 국가 적 실용성의 추구（역사적 현실）라는 상이한 지향점을 대표한다. 본 연구는 이를 통해 현대의 리더십이 오기의 탁월한 문제 해결 능력과 오디세우스의 인본주의적 균형 감각을 변증법적으로 통합해야 한다는 시사점을 제공한다.

This study aims to elucidate the essence and characteristics of war hero leadership manifested in distinct narrative contexts by comparing the mythological hero Odysseus from the Western classic The Odyssey and the historical figure Wu Qi(吳 起) from the Eastern classic Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), specifically the “Biography of Wu Qi.” To this end, the leadership of both figures was analyzed based on four key dimensions: Professional Competence and Strategic Wisdom, Institutional Reform and Strict Military Discipline, Empathy and Shared Hardship, and Ethical Tension and Tragedy.

The analysis reveals that Odysseus demonstrated the traits of a ‘Strategic Guardian’ who overcomes transcendent adversity and restores communal order through the resourcefulness symbolized by ‘Metis.’ In contrast, Wu Qi presented the archetype of a ‘Practical Reformer’ who implemented radical institutional reforms to dismantle realistic contradictions, based on calculating statecraft and military strategy. A distinct ethical divergence is observed: whereas Odysseus secured mythological justification for unethical acts (such as killing) under the pretext of homecoming and the restoration of order, Wu Qi pursued extreme utilitarianism by sacrificing personal ethics to achieve his goals, only to face a tragic demise that exposed the limitations of historical reality.

In conclusion, the leadership of these two heroes represents divergent orientations: the Restoration of Humanistic Values (Mythological Ideal) and the Pursuit of State Practicality (Historical Reality). This study suggests that modern leadership requires a dialectical integration of Wu Qi’s exceptional problem-solving capabilities and Odysseus’s humanistic sense of balance.
