혁신형 SMR 설계특성 및 재생에너지와 SMR 조화 기반 Smart Net-zero City = Design features of the innovative small modular reactor and development of the SMR smart net-zero city model harmonizing renewable energy and SMRs
The Innovative Small Modular Reactor (i-SMR) is a next-generation integral pressurized water reactor currently under development as part of a national R&D program. Designed under the philosophy of “Safety-by-Design,” the i-SMR represents a new-concept nuclear power system combining structural simplification with fully passive safety systems. A total of four reactor modules, each rated at 170 MWe, will be constructed and operated at a single plant site, providing a total installed capacity of 680 MWe. Key components such as the boron-free core, internally mounted control rod drive mechanisms, helical-coil steam generators, and canned motor coolant are all integrated within a single pressure vessel. This integral design pumps are all integrated within a single pressure vessel. This integral design physically eliminates the possibility of large-break loss-of-coolant accidents. The i-SMR incorporates three fully passive safety systems: the Passive Emergency Core Cooling System, the Passive Auxiliary Feedwater System, and the Passive Containment Cooling System, which can maintain both core and containment cooling for over 72 h without any external power supply or operator intervention. Leveraging its exceptional safety, reliability, and flexible load-following capability, the i-SMR can serve as a core energy source for the SMR Smart Net-zero City model, which integrates solar, wind, energy-storage systems, and hydrogen-production facilities. The SSNC is an AI-driven energy-management platform designed to provide integrated control of electricity, heat, and hydrogen, the essential energy forms for future smart cities. By achieving both enhanced competitiveness and accelerated carbon neutrality, the SSNC represents a sustainable and innovative business model for the next era of clean-energy urban ecosystems.
