구술생애사로 본 농촌 여성의 돌봄노동과 주체성-해방 이후 전북 고창군 여성들의 삶과 기억-

연구 목적: 본 연구는 구술생애사를 통해 해방 이후 전북 고창군 농촌 여성들의 삶을 분석하고, 그들의 돌봄노동이 여성 주체성 형성에 미치는 의미와 작용을 탐구하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 통해 돌봄노동을 사회적 재생산과 젠더 권력관계 속에서 재해석하고, 농촌 여성의 삶을 통해 돌봄과 주체성의 관계를 밝히고자 한다.
연구 방법: 연구 방법으로는 심층 구술면담을 통해 생애사를 수집하고, Braun & Clarke(2006)의 주제분석(thematic analysis) 절차를 적용하여 주요 주제를 도출하였다. 이후 구술사적 내러티브 분석을 병행하여 각 구술자의 삶의 맥락과 의미를 심층적으로 해석하였다.
연구 내용: 본 연구는 해방 이후 전북 고창군 농촌 여성들의 생애를 구술로 재구성하여, 그들의 일상적 돌봄노동이 지닌 의미와 사회적 함의를 탐색하였다. 농업·가사·교육·봉양·공동체 활동 등 다양한 돌봄 실천을 중심으로, 돌봄이 가족을 넘어 지역사회 유지와 세대 재생산의 기반으로 작동하는 과정을 살펴보았다. 또한 구술을 통해 드러난 감정과 책임, 신앙 등의 경험을 분석함으로써, 돌봄이 여성 주체성 형성의 핵심적 매개로 작용함을 논의하였다.
결론 및 제언: 본 연구는 농촌 여성의 돌봄노동을 사회적 재생산과 젠더 권력관계 속에서 새롭게 조명함으로써, 기존의 노동 개념을 확장하고 구술생애사 연구의 방법론적 가능성을 제시하였다. 또한 농촌 여성의 일상적 돌봄과 실천이 공동체 유지의 핵심적 사회자본임을 보여주며, 향후에는 지역 돌봄의 공공화와 여성의 역사적 주체성 회복을 위한 정책적·학문적 논의로 확장될 필요가 있다.

Care Work and Subjectivity of Rural Women Through Oral Life Histories: Lives and Memories of Women in Gochang County, North Jeolla Province, After Korea’s Liberation

Abstract: This study investigates the lives of rural women in Gochang County, North Jeolla Province, after Korea’s Liberation through oral life histories and explores how their care work has influenced the formation of female subjectivity. By tracing their lived experiences, the study aims to reinterpret care labor beyond the private realm of the family and to understand it within the broader contexts of social reproduction and gender power relations. The research collected in-depth oral interviews and applied Braun & Clarke’s (2006) thematic analysis to identify major themes, which were then further interpreted through narrative analysis. This methodological combination allowed for a contextual and holistic understanding of women’s life stories. The study reconstructs the everyday lives of rural women who simultaneously engaged in agricultural labor, domestic chores, child-rearing, elder care, and community rituals. These diverse forms of care practice reveal how women have sustained their families and communities, redistributed labor and resources, and expressed moral responsibility and emotional solidarity. Moreover, the narratives demonstrate that care functioned as both a moral duty and a foundation for women’s self-awareness and agency. Ultimately, this research highlights the socio-historical significance of rural women’s care labor and redefines it as an essential element of communal reproduction. It expands the methodological horizon of oral life history research and calls for renewed attention to the public value of care and the recovery of women’s historical subjectivity in rural society.
