본 연구는 중등 음악 교사의 소리 교육에 대한 인식을 조사하여 음악 감상의 새로운 접근으로서 그 필요성을 탐색하였다. 본 연구는 1~3차 예비 조사를 거친 뒤 본 조사를 실시하였다. 예비 조사는 음악 교사와 비전공 교사를 대상으로 1차 포커스 그룹 인터뷰(FGI), 2차 개방형 설문, 3차 음악 교사 대상 파일럿 설문이었다. 예비 조사 결과, 음악 교사는 음악을 들을 때 ‘음악 요소’ 중심의 인지적 변별과 작품 중심으로 감상하며, 비전공 교사는 청취자 중심의 정서적 반응과 통합적인 인상, 완결성으로 파악함을 확인하였다. 이를 바탕으로 13개의 문항이 개발되었으며, 본 조사에는 음악 교사 107명이 응답하였다. 연구 결과, 응답자의 대다수는 재직 학교의 학생들이 음악 요소 개념을 충분히 설명하지 못한다고 밝혔다. 또한 음악의 특성을 구분할 때 음악 요소 외에도 소리의 균형, 울림, 공간감 등 음향적 요인이 중요하다고 인식하였으며 전반적으로 소리 교육의 필요성에 동의하였다. 이러한 결과는 음악 교육에서의 소리 교육은 ‘음악 요소’ 중심의 분석 중심에서 벗어나 주체적 청취와 감각적 경험을 확장하는 방향으로 나아가야 함을 시사한다.

This study investigated music teachers’ perceptions of sound education and explored its necessity as a new approach to music appreciation. The study was conducted through one main survey following three stages of preliminary research. The preliminary stages included (1) a focus group interview (FGI) with music and non-music teachers, (2) an open-ended questionnaire, and (3) a pilot survey targeting music teachers. The preliminary results revealed that music teachers listen to music with a focus on cognitive discrimination centered on ‘musical elements’ and appreciation centered on the work itself, while non-major teachers perceive music through listener-centered emotional responses, holistic impressions, and the completeness. Based on these findings, thirteen survey items were developed, and 107 music teachers participated in the main survey. The results showed that most respondents reported that their students could not adequately explain the concept of musical elements. Moreover, teachers recognized that, in addition to musical elements, acoustic factors such as balance, resonance, and spatiality were important in distinguishing the characteristics of music, and they generally agreed on the necessity of sound education. These findings suggest that sound education in music teaching should move beyond an analytical approach centered on musical elements toward fostering autonomous listening and expanding sensory experience.
