본 연구는 초기 성인기의 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족과 불안 및 우울의 관계에서 정서변화신념과 반추의 순차매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 수도권에 거주하는 200명의 성인(남성 100명, 여성 100명, 평균 22.89세, SD=1.88)을 대상으로 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족, 정서변화신념, 반추, 불안, 우울을 자기보고식 설문으로 측정하였다. 분석 결과, 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족과 불안 및 우울의 관계에서 정서변화신념과 반추는 각각 유의한 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 정서변화신념과 반추의 순차매개효과가 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로 불확실성에 대한 인내력이 부족할수록 정서변화신념이 낮고, 반추를 더 많이 사용하면서 높은 수준의 불안과 우울을 경험할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족이 불안 및 우울에 영향을 미치는 기제에 대한 이론적, 임상적 함의와 한계점에 대해 논의하였다.
