본 연구는 지방소멸 대응과 기업 지방 이전이 확산되는 상황에서, 중소기업 이전이 구성원과 가족의 삶에 미치는 영향을 이해할 필요성에서 출발하였다. 이에 지방으로 이전한 중소기업의 대표, 직원, 배우자가 경험한 분거와 적응의 과정을 심층적으로 탐색하고자 하였다. 연구방법은 Clandinin과 Connelly의 내러티브 연구를 적용하였으며, 지방 이전과 분거를 경험한 8명을 대상으로 반구조화 면담을 실시하고 자료를 분석하였다. 연구결과, 참여자들의 경험은 ‘이전 결정의 무게’, ‘분거의 시작과 일상의 균열’, ‘버티기와 관계의 재조정’, ‘성찰과 의미의 재구성’의 흐름으로 나타났다. 논의 및 결론으로, 지방 이전과 분거는 단순한 물리적 이동이 아니라 생활세계와 가족관계의 재편, 정서적 적응, 삶의 의미 재구성이 동시에 일어나는 과정으로 이해될 필요가 있다. 따라서 지방 이전의 성패는 기업 차원뿐 아니라 가족의 정주 안정과 심리⋅정서적 적응 지원까지 함께 고려되어야 한다.

This study was conducted in response to the growing need to understand how the relocation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to regional areas affects employees and their families amid regional population decline. The purpose was to explore the experiences of family separation and adaptation among business owners, employees, and spouses following relocation. Using Clandinin and Connelly's narrative inquiry, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight participants. The findings revealed four narrative flows: the burden of relocation decisions, the disruption of everyday life caused by family separation, efforts to endure and readjust relationships, and reflection with meaning reconstruction. The study concludes that relocation and separation should be understood not merely as physical moves, but as processes involving the reorganization of daily life, family relationships, emotional adaptation, and life meaning. Therefore, the success of SME relocation should be evaluated not only at the organizational level but also in terms of family stability and psychological support.
