본 연구는 2023년 제44회 서울연극제 대상을 수상한 연극 《띨뿌리》(김윤식 작, 구태환 연출)의 연출 미학을 ‘현상학적 연출(Phenomenological Directing)’의 관점에서 심층 분석하고, 이를 통해 트라우마의 신체적치유 기제를 규명하는 데 목적이 있다. 매향리 폭격 훈련장이라는 실재적이고 역사적인 트라우마를 무대화함에 있어, 본 공연은 기존 역사극이 답습해 온 언어 중심의 재현과 인지적 서사 전달의 한계를 탈피하고, ‘폭격의 몸적 지각(Somatic Perception)’을 통한 감각적 리얼리즘을 대안으로 제시하였다.

본 연구는 이러한 연출적 시도의 이론적 타당성을 확보하기 위해 메를로-퐁티(M. Merleau-Ponty)의 ‘살(Chair)’ 존재론과 피터 레빈(Peter A. Levine)의 신체 경험(Somatic Experiencing, SE™) 이론을 융합하여 분석의 틀로 삼았다. 연구 결과, 《띨뿌리》의 연출은 소리의 물질성을 극대화하여 관객의 신체를 단순한 관찰자가 아닌 수행적 매체로 전환시켰음이 확인되었다. 특히 신경생리학적 치유 원리인 ‘점진적 방출’과 ‘진동’ 을 드라마투르기적으로 적용함으로써, 관객이 트라우마적 자극을 안전하게 마주하고 실존적 통찰과 간접적 치유를 경험할 수 있도록 유도하였다.

결론적으로 본 연구는 《띨뿌리》가 단순한 역사적 사실의 재현을 넘어, 관객으로 하여금 사회적 고통을 신체적으로 분유(分有)하고 윤리적으로 목격하게 만드는 ‘수행적 치유의 장’으로서 기능했음을 밝힌다. 이는 동시대 연극이 트라우마를 다루는 방식에 있어 시각적 재현의 윤리를 넘어선 새로운 현상학적 패러다임을 제시했다는 점에서 중요한 학술적 의의를 지닌다.
