En este estudio, basado en las prestigiosas Conferencia Mellon pronunciadas por el autor en el National Gallery, Jonathan Brown describe la coleccion extraordinaria que amaso Felipe IV de Espana como resultado de la liquidacion, asi como los habitos coleccionistas de personajes como el archiduque Leopoldo Guillermo de Austria y el Cardinal Richelieu de Francia.
