This two-volume research collection, edited by Milner (politics and international affairs, Princeton U.) and Tingley (government, Harvard U.), explores the connection between interstate foreign aid giving and geopolitics, with a broad understanding of geopolitics that encompasses both domestic and international politics. A number of older, seminal papers are included, such as Hans Morgenthau's 1962 paper 'A Political Theory of Foreign Aid,' which leads off the set, but most of the papers are drawn from the first decades of the 21st century. Sixty-five papers are presented in total, thematically organized into sections that focus on the use of foreign aid to further foreign policy goals, the domestic politics of aid within donor countries, the politics of who receives aid and the interaction between aid and politics in recipient countries, the role of international institutions in the politics of aid, and the effects of military aid.
