The rheological properties of ABS-carbon black melts were studied using Capillary Rheometer.

The apparent viscosity of ABS-carbon black melts increased with increasing the amount of carbon black and decreased with an increase in temperature. Power law index of ABS-carbon black melts decreased with an increase in temperature and that of ABS decreased with an increase in temperature.

Relative viscosities increased with an increase in temperature and decreased with an increase in shear rate. Those relative viscosities, varied by the volume fraction of filler, were much larger than other values derived from various theories. It can be, therefore, concluded that relative viscosity is a function of temperature and shear rate as well as volume fraction.

The apparent viscosity increased owing to the structure factor when the structure of carbon black packed was developed.

The activation energy obtained under constant shear rate decreased with increasing shear rate.

Swelling ratio was independent of medium used when the sample was frozen but decreased as the content of carbon black increased.

Yield stress decreased with an Increase in temperature and increased with increasing amount of carbon black. Particularly, cross head speed of plunger influenced the yield stress, which is independent of the size of Capillary. It was found that yield stress could be obtained with cross head speed from 0.1 cm/min to 0.15 cm/min.
