This paper claims that Cohen's (2004) notion homogeneity regarding generic sentences is not tenable and that generic sentences carry knowledge-level inferences that are justifiable in terms of force dynamics in the epistemic domain. In many cases the law-like quality of generic sentences comes from the proposal of this paper that generic sentences are theory-based generalizations supported by various forces and are used when their predicates denote properties that can be seen as preserving homeostatic constancy of propositional contents. This paper points out that generic generalizations should be interpreted respecting the distinctions found between object categories and rule-governed categories. In this vein this paper claims that exceptions in generic statements are inevitable for object categories and they are to be allowed at least in two respects. One is that every natural object can undergo operations of some sort, still retaining its membership of the category. The other is that natural objects are similar to each other only to the degree of family resemblance.
