본 연구는 이웃환경 무질서가 청소년 우울에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 일상생활스트레스와 부정적 가족사건의 매개적 역할을 검증해보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 스트레스과정 접근과 사회해체이론을 토대로 연구모형을 설정한 후, 구조방정식모형을 활용하여 검증하였다. 분석 자료는 한국청소년패널조사 중학교 2학년 5차년도 자료 2,967사례였다. 연구 결과, 구조방정식모형의 측정모형과 구조모형이 모두 자료에 적절한 모형적합도를 나타냈으며, 구조모형의 모든 경로들이 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 즉 이웃환경 무질서는 청소년 우울에 대해 유의미한 직접효과를 보였을 뿐만 아니라 일상생활스트레스와 부정적 가족사건의 매개적 과정을 통해서 간접효과를 나타냈다. 본 연구에서는 또한 연구모형에 대한 분석결과를 토대로 일상생활스트레스와 부정적 가족사건의 매개효과에 대한 유의성을 확인하기 위해 Sobel 검증을 실시했다. 분석결과, 일상생활스트레스만이 이웃환경 무질서와 우울의 관계에서 유의미한 부분매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 청소년분야에서의 실제적 개입과 추후연구를 위한 방안을 논의하였다.
