다양한 무선 네트워크의 발전과 이에 접속할 수 있는 멀티모드 단말의 사용은 4세대 이기종 네트워크의 출현을 불러왔다. 4세대 이기종 네트워크는 다양한 무선 네트워크의 통합 네트워크로써 상황에 맞는 최적의 무선 네트워크를 이용하여 언제 어디에서나 사용자에게 최상의 통신 서비스를 제공한다. 본 논문에서는 4세대 이기종 네트워크의 구조와 특징에 대해서 살펴보고 주요한 이슈인 이동성 지원과 멀티미디어 서비스 제공 방안에 대한 최신 연구 동향을 제공하도록 한다. 다음으로는 4세대 이기종 네트워크에서의 VoD 멀티미디어 서비스에서 발생하는 비용의 최소화를 위한무선 네트워크 선택/사용 기법을 제안한다.
With the rapid development of various wireless networks and proliferation of multi-mode devices, 4G heterogeneous networks appear as the integration of all of the existing wireless networks. By selecting the most suitable wireless network, 4G heterogeneous networks allow users to enjoy the best communication service at anytime and anywhere. In this paper, an overview of 4G heterogeneous networks is given in terms of its architecture and characteristics. The major issues of 4G heterogeneous networks such as mobility management and multimedia service are discussed with the up-to-date research results. Finally, we deal with the cost problem in VoD multimedia service, providing an optimal policy which minimizes the cost of VoD service.
