 서구의 연구들에서 재가복지서비스 이용노인은 우울 취약집단으로 지적되었으나 우리나라에서는 아직 이에 대해 연구된 바 없다. 본 연구는 우리나라 재가복지서비스 이용노인을 대상으로 우울 수준과 우울 관련요인을 조사하였다. 특히, 선행연구에서 이미 높은 우울 수준이 보고된 일반노인과의 비교를 통해 이들의 우울은 얼마나 더 심각한지, 우울에 영향을 미치는 요인은 차이가 있는지 파악하고자 하였다. 면접에 지장이 없는 재가복지서비스 이용노인 184명과 재가복지서비스를 이용하지 않는 일반노인 288명을 대상으로 기술적 분석, 회귀분석 등이 실시되었다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 재가복지서비스 이용노인의 우울 수준은 일반노인보다 월등하게 높았고 우울증으로 진단될 수 있는 범위에 포함된 비율도 세 배 이상 높았다. 둘째, 재가복지서비스 이용노인과 일반노인에서 기능손상과 만성질환 정도가 심할수록 우울 수준이 높았다. 셋째, 재가복지서비스 이용노인에서 기능손상이 우울에 미치는 영향은 재가복지서비스 이용수준과 만족도에 의해 감소되었다. 이러한 결과에 따라 재가복지서비스 이용노인의 우울에 대한 관심의 촉구와 더불어 재가복지서비스 관련자들을 훈련함으로써 우울증 스크리닝에 기여할 수 있게 하고 심리사회적 개입, 우울증 치료의 모니터링을 담당할 수 있도록 하는 등 재가복지서비스 이용노인의 우울증을 감소시키기 위한 방안들이 제시되었다.
