In this paper, the search for historical discontinuities, ruptures, and unexpected continuity of the discourses (re)defining Korean-American children and their education aims to challenge the belief that the knowledge produced by these discourses is transparent and authentic. The poststructuralist approach intends to investigate and challenge the legitimacy of the dominant image and narrative of Korean-American children as a highly achieving model minority. Furthermore, this paper reveals intersecting discourses, such as yellow peril and model minority, and Koreanness and global citizenship that influence how Korean-American children are envisioned. This paper thus aims to unlearn the inherent dominant mode of understanding Korean-American childhood.
